Working eBay Business Model (Part-3)

Posted on July 9, 2010

When finding new leads on eBay we are basically finding a product that many eBay customers are looking for and spending money on. By doing this we are going to insure that we target as many potential customers as possible.

I’m going to use screenshots from eBay and go through the process of starting a new “Sale” and the system for finding LEADS. Firstly I’m going to visit ebay website and pick a category. There is no right or wrong answer here, it’s just a matter of trial and error. So, I’m going to choose the “Vehicle Parts & Accessories” category….. See image below:

1.3 Working eBay Business Model (Part 3)

Once in “Vehicle Parts & Accessories” we need to be a bit more specific and choose a sub category. But we first need to think ahead a bit about the type of products that are going to be easier to source and sell. We don’t want products that are too expensive and neither do we want to be buying and selling large items.

With that in mind, I would suggest the sub-category “Vehicle Accessories” because products in this category will often be small, cheap, and of a simple nature. So, let’s click on the “Vehicle Accessories” sub-heading and see if we have found the LEAD……….(click on image to enlarge)

1.1 Working eBay Business Model (Part 3)As shown in the image above there is a blue rectangle surrounding the words “Featured Items” and this confirms to us that we have found the Featured Items we were looking for….

Let me explain a bit more while focusing on the product rectangled above in red (ELM327 Code Reader)… Now if you happened to be an eBay “Top-Rated-Seller” it would cost you 135GBP to list this “ELM327 Code Reader” in the “Featured Items” section. Trust me… there is no other way that these “Top Rated” eBay PowerSellers will fork out the extra money for listing in this product if they weren’t selling tons of them to hungry customers in this category. This method of finding leads through “featured items” is one practiced by many eBay PowerSellers and its pretty much bulletproof….. But to be totally sure let’s click the listing itself and have a closer look at the product.… See image below:(click on image to enlarge)

1.2 Working eBay Business Model (Part 3)

As we can see above, this item sells on BUY IT NOW for 19.95GBP (apprx. $30.00) with 3.95GBP(apprx. $6.00) postage. But the most important aspect  is when we have a look at the “other item info” tab down to the right and see that it has sold a massive 208 times in this listing alone. That means this eBay seller has taken 4149.60GBP (about $6300.00) on just one listing. This can confirm to us that we have found a good product and we’re going to learn how to source it in the next post.
